As many of you are already aware, I celebrated my 40th birthday this month and I’m not one for just celebrating birthdays on the actual day. I like birthday celebrations to go on for some time and my 40th has given me the perfect excuse to do so.

We celebrated my actual birthday with our families at home. Richard and his parents made a lovely family meal for us to share which was lovely. However, earlier this year we decided that we’d book a family trip away to Andalucia, Costa Del Sol, and we’d continue celebrating my birthday there. Since the boys have been born we’ve come to southern Spain several times at Easter time and we’ve loved it so we decided to come again.

What attracts us to Costa Del Sol?

The beaches here are plentiful and there is so much choice when it comes to where you’d like to spend the day. When we visit we always hire a car so we can see as much of the area and its beautiful beaches as possible. Our favourite places are Puerto Banus, Mijas and Le Courel but, we also love the busier places too, including Torremolenos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola.

They’re all within a few miles of one another which makes it easy to visit when hiring a car. By visiting different places each day, it adds variety to the holiday too which allows us to explore the coastline and every time we’ve been we’ve found a new beach to visit. We often like to go off on adventures during our holidays and we’re not a family who just sits around the pool all day so this holiday destination is perfect for us.

It’s also very reasonable to visit this part of Europe in April. For a family of 4 you can get self-catering accommodation and flights  from £450 upwards, that’s total cost and car hire is £60 upwards too. It’s a great time of year to come too as we’re all ready for a bit of sunshine by this point in the year.

We stayed in the Mijas Hotel Apartments and booked through On The Beach. We always get great deals from there and tend to book most of our holidays through them. We’ve stayed in these apartments twice before and its great, it’s a typical 3 star accommodation. It’s practical, clean and the apartment sizes are great, we had two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen space and lounge/diner with a balcony overlooking the pool area. It was a great complex to stay as it had pool tables, ping pong, mini golf, football area, indoor pool, jacuzzi and steam room too and cafe/bar area.

The only downside is that it’s 5 minutes by car from the coastline and its away from the main resorts so you would need to hire a car. We hire our car from Malaga Car and we’ve always received great service – it’s one of the most reasonable car hire companies in southern Spain.

The highlights of our holiday

Of course the biggest highlight of the holiday was spending time with family. Life is so busy so just spending time hanging out with them is always great!

This holiday we played so many different sports, visited so many beaches together and had some good fun playing football and golf on the beach. But, of course holidaying with family can also be challenging at times as the squabbling between our two boys can really test our patience at times but, it’s all part of parenting isn’t it?! I know we’re not the only ones. I often smile to myself when I see other parents being challenged in the same way too and it helps to keep me sane to know it’s not just us.

This holiday, Richard and I got to spend some time together too and we actually planned our up and coming trips a little more too. Weve got France to look forward to, Cornwall, Richard is off to Portugal and I’ve got a girlie weekend booked too and then at the end of the summer we’re off the Norfolk Broads.

Life is great right now and as always I feel eternally grateful.

Best wishes,

Kelly x
