Let’s face it, life is so fast paced these days and we often lurch from one activity to another trying to cram in as many things as we can to keep up with the demands placed upon us.

We have so many different roles to fulfil; we’re Mums, Dads, parents, sisters, brothers, aunties, uncles, cousins, co-workers, business men or women ~ the list is endless! Then on top of that we’re trying to build a career or hold down a job, perhaps raise children and juggle the daily demands of life and sometimes, just sometimes it can all get too much.

When this happens we can often feel overwhelmed, stressed or anxious and this can lead to mental and physical ailments which isn’t great for us especially if its something we’re suffering with longer term. But, when we’re in that situation it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel too, I know because I was once there. If you’re feeling like that then you’re not alone, we all feel like this at times but it’s how we get out of this situation that matters.

As a coach I meet so many people who are lost, stuck or overwhelmed by life. They dont know where they’re headed or they are unhappy in their current situation and they dont know what to do. They may be unhappy with their relationship or career that they’ve chosen or perhaps another area of their life. It’s likely these people have been waking up too many days in a row and are not feeling happy in the life they’re living anymore. Perhaps they know why they feel like this but, for some they just know something is missing {sometimes they’re unsure what it is} and for many, they just dont know where to start and they’ve got no idea how to make positive changes to their life.

These people have 2 choices; number 1, they can stay in this situation and do nothing. These are the people who will stay in that victim-like state and continously whinge, bitch or moan about how rubbish life is or, number 2, to take control of the situation and start designing a life they love. Which one would you rather do?!

But where do I start I hear you ask?

As a coach I have so many tools and techniques to help people move forward with their lives and I’m going to share one of my favourite tools with you. This tool is called the ‘Wheel of life’, it’s a traditional coaching tool but, stands the test of time and I use it all the time both in my life and with others. There is a photo of the WOL below and I’ve also attached a copy of this for you so you can download it and start using it right away for yourselves.

So, how does it work?

The WOL has 8 areas/segments and these 8 segments are the most important 8 areas featured in your life today. These usually include; marriage, relationships, motherhood/fatherhood, home/environment, finances, work or career, health, fitness, confidence {for some}, anxiety {for others}, me time {people usually forget about this one}, personal development etc. When identifying these areas choose words that resonate with you, for example if you have your own business instead of working for someone else then use the word business rather than work. Also, if you’re struggling with anxiety then include this but, if it’s not important for you then don’t feature it.

Now, write these 8 areas in the WOL circle, one area for each segment. Next, score each area between 1-10, 1 being nowhere near where you’d like to be in this area of your life and 10 – being good and score it anywhere in between. 5 being average, I’m okay with this area of my life.

Once you’ve done this you will be able to see your happiness levels in all areas of your life from a birds eye view. It’s a way of getting everything out of your head and onto paper and this helps with the overwhelm and lack of direction. Seeing it all there on paper really helps and provides the beginning of a plan of action.

So now you’ve done this, we’re going to start taking some action.

Next steps

Now, I’d like you to identify 3 actions for every area of your life that is within your control and something you can take action on within the next 6 months. These actions need to be designed to help you move from where you are now to where you want to be, closer to the 10 score.

The next step is about focusing on one area at a time, this will help you from feeling overwhelmed. Taking control is the most important step, once you’ve done that you can then start taking daily action to move you closer to your 10 score in every area of your life.

Closing note to you

In life there isn’t a magic wand that can be waved to take all the hardship, grief or hard times but, there are tools that can help you to take action, to take control of your life and start moving you towards living a life you want to live. The caviate with all of this is that ‘you’ are the only person that can do this, so start now, take action ~ I promise you, you wont regret it.

Every fortnight I’ll be sharing inspiring coaching & mindfulness tools and techniques to help you live a life you love and every month we share these techniques in our newsletter so if you’d like to become part of a community that ‘aspires to live’ and not merely survive, then why not sign up to our Aspirational Living here. We’d love to see you over there!

Good luck and do let me know how you get on with the WOL, I’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.

Warmest wishes,

Kelly x
